Components of Teeth Braces

The use of braces is one of the different treatments available for crooked teeth. In order have a success implementation of teeth braces ,you need to have a consultation with your orthodontist. An orthodontist is a dentist whose specialties are fixing irregularities of the teeth. Based on the status of your health, a clinic exam, and an X-ray of your mouth and head, your orthodontist will come up with the appropriate treatment plan.

There are three types of teeth braces. The first type is brackets which are made of stainless steel, plastic, or clear ceramic which are normally used for cosmetic reasons. The disadvantage of using plastic brackets is that they normally become discolored or stained. The second type of braces are the lingual-type brackets which are fixed to the back of the teeth. The advantage of this type of teeth braces is that they hide the brackets. The third type of teeth braces is the traditional bands that gives your mouth a metal look due to the use of metal brackets. There is also a newer type of teeth braces known as the mini-braces which are much smaller.

So how exactly do teeth braces work? Well, they apply continuous pressure to your teeth to move them in a specific direction over a period of time. This is a process that takes time since that it occurs slowly.

In order to accomplish this, teeth braces are made up of several components – brackets which are bonded on each teeth to hold the wires that are responsible for moving the teeth, bands which wrap around the teeth providing an anchor for the brackets, spacers which goes between each tooth creating space for the bands, arch wires that guide the teeth, ties which are rubber rings on the arch wire, tubes that hold the ends of the wire in their places, rubber bands to hold the arch wires and the brackets together, sprints that are responsible for pushing, pulling, opening, and closing the spaces between the teeth, and a headgear that moves the upper molars in the right direction.

Teeth braces once placed needs proper care and maintenance.
